“Startup Initiatives” programme started accepting applications throughout Uzbekistan to the fourth cycle of youth startup support programme. This year, in addition to knowledge and experience in creating a startup, the best projects will have access to the resources (customer base, promotion channels, API, etc.) of the programme’s corporate partners (Eastlink, Uzconstructionmaterials) and receive grant funds for implementation of the project.
The “Startup Initiatives” programme is being implemented since 2016 and is aimed at supporting young people in creating their own startups and developing entrepreneurship skills. The program is a product of joint activities of UNDP and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and this year fourth cycle of the programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations (MELR) in partnership with Youth Union of Uzbekistan, Technological Park of Software Products and Information Technologies (IT-Park) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan under the UNDP and MELR “Promoting Youth Employment in Uzbekistan” joint project funded by the Russian Federation.
The support programme is implemented to undertake tasks approved by the Resolution of the President of Republic of Uzbekistan issued on May 24, 2017 No. PP-3001, provision of employment for graduates of professional colleges, academic lyceums and higher education institutions.
What does the programme include?
Teams of best projects selected by jury panel members will be able to participate in the programme and participate in our traditional training course on developing startup projects based on the Lean Startup methodology, which this is modified with new content and practical exercises.
Based on the experience of previous cycles, the focus will be made on closer work with teams of selected startup projects, organizing consultative meetings with experts and mentors, and attracting trackers to support teams in the implementation of startup projects. Experts will advise on validation of project ideas, testing value propositions and project hypotheses, developing an MVP (minimum workable product), developing project business models, searching selling channels and preparing presentation for investors.
Teams of most successful projects will have an opportunity to present their projects to partner organizations and potential investors at the final “Demo Day” event. At the end of the “Demo Day” best startup projects will receive prize awards and grant funding for the implementation of their startups. The financial funds are expected to be provided by the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations and partner organizations.
This year, trainings courses and master classes are expected to be held, in addition to Tashkent, in Fergana, Kashkadarya and Samarkand regions and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In each region up to 20 best projects are planned to be select to participate in the support programme. Upon completion of the regional phase of the programme, the best projects selected by the local expert groups will get an opportunity to participate in the final “Demo Day” in Tashkent.
How projects are selected to participate in the programme?
Participants will be selected through review of online applications and interview with team of experts. As in the past years, projects and teams co-founded or led by young women are encouraged to apply.
